Guyana born poet Yvonne Sam has published a book of poetry entitled Life’s Many Faces: Fun-on-the-Run. The book has been described as “a collection of ballads…conveying a message of positivity, strength and tenacity”.


Ms Sam, resident in Canada, holds a M.Ed in Education from Mc Gill University in Montreal, BSCN in Nursing from Athabasca University, Alberta and a Diploma in Adult Education from Concordia University in Montreal.

It is a photojournal of the southwestern part of the country that borders its neighbour Brazil. See the story of the land, the people, their everyday life, and the flora and fauna captured in over 300 photographs of this scenic part of Guyana. Other documentaries published by Mr Balkaran are at the American Museum of Natural History (New York), Royal Ontario Museum (Toronto), the National Library of Guyana, University of Guyana Library and at other libraries including the Walter Roth Museum of Anthropology.

Guyana born author Steve Connolly has has published Children of Watooka to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Guyana’s independence.


His book provides information on Guyana, formerly British Guiana, from its historical roots through to modern times.


Entwining history with people, the book has been described as a ‘story of stories’ and is shaped by the contibutions of eight-five people with multiethnic/multicultural backgrounds.
